NEWS:
- Welcome to your online team site. Here you will find all relevant information and preparation materials related to your tour as we progress toward 2017. We are grateful to be considered in this process.
Why Zag Argentina?
- We think it starts with believing in who we are and what we do? It is about "Zagging", stepping out of our comfort zone and being better for it. You can learn more about us at the following link. Our passion for making a difference can be summed up and is inspired by the UN Millenium video on our homepage(www.zagfieldhockey.com) in the upper right corner. In addition to giving with our hands on tour, we also commit to giving a percentage of proceeds to needs in Africa and other parts of the world.
- The essence of who we are really boils down to two important factors. We are the only organization made up of hockey people, owned and operated. That means something. It means we care for the sport and have a passion for our athletes and teams. Most importantly we do this to challenge our girls on the field and off. Our mandatory community service programs and giving back are part of our fabric. Our programs are more than hockey, culture, etc, they are powerful human experiences which aim to challenge our girls to make themselves and the world better.
- We have the best teams in the hockey world traveling with us and are the only organization who also develops hockey experiences of the USA for teams from the UK, Argentina and other parts of the world. Being hockey people means something to these teams and understanding what hockey people and teams need in relation to any given country is critical.
- What we do is personal. We are a small organization. Our operating staff abroad are friends first and foremost, people who are travel professionals, but are also part of the hockey community. Every person and group who travels with us is an opportunity for us to make a small difference. We, to our knowledge, are the only organization that meets in person with our groups an average of 2 or 3 times. What we do is about trust and we do this because we want to make a difference...pure and simple.
- Talk to those who have traveled with us. They are the ones who understand our difference. See the "Other Teams" tab for coaches who might be able to share our passion.
- As mentioned under the Zag Director tab(click on that and remember you can zoom in to read more), our programs in Argentina are very near and dear for us. Our founding partner lived and played in Argentina and her family is Argentine. With that said, even more importantly, our director of South American operations and close friend was a very high level player for Argentina and she will be with you for your trip. You will also have an assistant tour manager caring for your every need(sometimes that is someone from our office in the US, other times it is someone on our Arg staff). In Argentina, you need to be Argentine to get things done as it is a very proud culture and if you are not a "Porteno" or are an outsider it can be a challenging place. Silvina is a native of Buenos Aires and has competed for her country and has directed our tours for the last 5 years. She also had the experience of coaching in the USA for many years which provided her with a fantastic opportunity to truly understand our teams and their needs on and off the field. No other organization has an asset as gifted and unique as Silvina and the experience she comes from. We feel very fortunate to have such a high level person, tour leader, and hockey mentor for our groups.
- Our programs are unique and all that we do is aimed to provide an interactive learning experience on the field and off. Passive tours are for retired tour groups. You can see buildings and churches on TV. We travel to experience the people and culture and be a part of that culture for 8 days. Silvina is close friends with the highest level coaches and athletes in Argentina so having clinics with national teams coaches or former world players of the year is a typical occurrence. Off the field our teams engage in unique interactive learning opportunities, such as Tango lessons, The Ultimate Steak lessons, etc. We also provide opportunity for out athletes to stay with an Argentine family for a night and live as the Argentines do. In all, we hope that our girls will be challenged and be better players and more importantly people. We hope our programs inspire them to give back and see the world's need as an opportunity to make a difference in some small way.
